ITH: Using NUCs to Split or Winter-Over Your Bees – Beginner & Advanced Beekeepers

May 19, 2019 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

You may not have realized it, but NUC boxes are one of your most versatile pieces of equipment. Yes, you can use them to hold your bees, but did you realize that these little gems can hold a queen in waiting? We’ll explain the many types of NUCS, what they can be used for, and why everyone should have at least one. We’ll be demonstrating how to build the wooden boxes as well as what types of bees and frames of bees you’ll need to get started…So you’ve heard about NUCs, but did you know that you can winter-over your bees in such a small cavern? We have been using NUCs for years. We use them to build new colonies, keep back-up bees & queens, collect swarms, and of course to winter over bees. We’ll explain how you can start a new hive from your existing bees. You’ve heard it before, but timing is everything. Build your NUC (or double NUC) by the middle of July, and your bees should go into the winter strong and ready for the cold weather – Please bring a veil. We will have materials available if you would like to build one of your own wooden NUC. There is an additional fee for NUC boxes and accessories.

$45 per person
