Happy New Year! Please join us for WCB’s first meeting of 2026 at the Moore Free Library in Newfane on January 17th from 1-3 pm. We will begin with a short business meeting, followed by a presentation. WCB is looking for new officers, the term beginning this spring. Would you like to be on our Board of Directors?
Our speaker will be Dave Wade with his presentation entitled “Adding Beeswax To Make Honeycomb-A New Discovery”. Add rolled up pieces of wax foundation to your hives to get the bees to complete construction on partially built out frames. He will demonstrate how he got the bees to build comb from this method through late season, August and September of 2024. The bees built honey frames and brood frames. Short on built out comb and your hive is becoming honey bound late season? Learn how to remedy the situation by getting the bees to build comb with was provided to them. He will also discuss his 2025 spring experiment using six package hives to see if they build out stronger and faster when provided with wax rolls. Wouldn’t it be nice if the bees built out significantly more comb and made more honey because they did not need to consume their stores to make wax? Also, learn a method of giving your rendered wax back to the bees for them to build new comb.
Our club has received a donation of a beautiful quilt with a bee design. The dimensions are 57 1/2 x 68 1/4, it fits a twin or daybed, lay on top of a double bed or the back of a couch. We will hold a raffle, a $20.00 donation per ticket will secure your chance to own this one of a kind quilt. We hope to have it on display at our meetings at the library, please see the photos below.
